Color
I really enjoyed taking color photography. I was literally running around the school finding things to take photos of. My favorite photo would be the one I took of Sandra because she was walking and I was telling her to hurry up and while she was walking I took some random shots of her and it actually turned out nice. I really like how the details on the jacket come out. I used the smart sharpen tool to do that. I also really like the photo of the car. I really like how the pop of yellow in the photo really catches your eye when you look at the photo. Overall I really liked doing this photo challenge because it didn’t take me much time to edit the photos in Photoshop but it looked like I did.
Windows
Taking window photos is challenging. I haven’t really taken any photos with windows so I had clue what the concept I wanted. Two of my photos kind of look similar because I liked both of them so much that I wanted to keep both of them. For one of the photo’s I took I tried do “dirty window photography”. I came up with that when I was editing the photo in photoshop and the window that I used was really dirty so I got the “dirtyness” of the window to make it look sharper. The other two similar photos were taken at the same spot. It was pouring outside but the window wasn’t wet so I got my water bottle and splashed the window to get the little droplets of water on the. I got one really close up to make the little droplets of water the focus point. I cropped the other photo because I didn’t want the cars in the background to ruin the photo of Sandra and the water droplets. Overall I really liked the way the photos turned out after I edited them in photoshop. My favorite photo would be the one that is the close up photo of Sandra with all of the water droplets.
Negative Space
I liked taking negative space photos. I learnt that you’re able to take negative space photos in so many different angles. My favorite photo would be the one I took in downtown when we went to our field trip. It’s the photo of the aqua building. I really liked how it was cloudy outside so the sky kind of looks white and the corner of the building contrasts really well with the white sky. Taking negative space photos at school was really hard because everything at school is pretty boring. But I got my way around things and I was able to make it look somewhat amusing. Overall I enjoyed experimenting taking photos with this photo challenge.
Macro
Macro photography is something that is very important to the human eye. When this photo challenge was introduced I thought it would be very easy but it wasn't. It was actually really hard. It took me two classes to actually be able to use the lens properly. After I go the hang of it I actually liked using the macro lens. For all three of the photos I mostly used the same editing skills. I went onto curves in photoshop and adjusted the exposure so it would compliment the photo as well as I used the smart sharpen to tool. With I found that it gave the photo a lot more. My favourite photo out of all three of them would have to be the picture of the flower. It took awhile to get it in focus and it actually worked. Taking the dandelion photo was the most difficult photo to take because I really wanted to focus it. It didn't come out exactly the way I wanted it to but I took it in photoshop and played around with all of the tools and got it to work the way I wanted to. Overall all of the photo challenges we have done so far this would have to be my favourite one yet because I was able to experiment so much with the lens and I learned a lot about it too!
Mundanity
Mundane photography is something that I didn’t even know existed until this week. Throughout the photo challenge I explored that the simplest photos say a lot. It took some time to actually realize that because I thought everything in the school was so boring and it was pointless to take photos of anything but then I started taking photos of things you see everyday. I took them into photo shop and edited them and for once I actually liked how they turned out because the photos I took were really boring. For the editing part I didn’t spend much time on it. I wanted to edited as less as I could for this project cause I wanted the boringness to come out.
Silhouettes
Taking silhouette photos was a challenge. I’ve really tried taking those types of photos and when I do they happen to be an accident so this week I really had to step outside of my comfort zone. I took all three of these photos of the pier at White Rock beach. When we had gone the sun was about to set, it was the perfect timing. Taking these photos were difficult because it was so cold and windy we needed the right angle to take these photos which took a while. There were blurs on the photos, and I didn’t really like them as much but when I was in photo shop I was playing around with it and I got some of them to disappear but there’s this one big one that I left alone and it actually compliments the photo. For one of the photos I wanted it to be a little different from the other two photos because they looked kind of the same. I added a comic look to the photo. It was still an silhouette photo but in comic version. I was playing around with the filters and this one fit best.
Jack Frost
For choice photo challenge other than architecture I decided to choose Jack Frost. I chose Jack Frost because it fell perfectly to the weather climate we were in. It had just snowed all weekend and there was ice everywhere. The first two photo’s are kind of the same thing but in different angles. I decided to take these photos because I really like that snow that was on the car window. And for the other photo I liked how the sun was peaking through the side mirror. I pretty much used the same editing skills for both of the photo. I sharpened the photo to make the snow look like ice. For the other photo I put a layer mask around the sun to make it look more yellow. My favorite photo out of all three of the photos my favorite photo was the photo of the icicles. I took this photo outside my backyard and I didn’t do much editing on it because I wanted it to keep it natural.
Architecture
For this weeks photo challenge I decided to choose architecture for on of them. I decided to choose architecture for one of my photo challenges because I am really fascinated by the different styles of buildings and how the structure is. All three of my photos are all taken when I went to my Europe trip last summer. The first photo was taken in Spain, Cadiz. I really liked this photo because of the bird’s eye view and that all of the roofs on the houses are different colors. To take this photo I had to walk all the way to the top of the church, which was 40 stories high, but it was worth it. The second photo I also took in Spain and it was right in front of the house my friends and I were staying in for a week. Where we stayed it was kind of like a maze and we would walk around and when I would look up at the sky I noticed that how close the buildings were together and I was amazed that how people can live here despite that it’s so claustrophobic. I took it to photo shop and I made it black and white because I found that it gave it more to the photo rather than it being color. The last photo that I took was in France. We had gone to this little village where there were ancient buildings surrounding us and the ground was all cobble stone so walking into little streets made it very narrow. In this photo it looks like the end of the street is coming to an end but its not, it’s just the perspective of the buildings. Overall for my three photos I didn’t do much editing to them because I wanted them to look natural.
Winter Wonderland
Finding photos for this week’s photo challenge was an obstacle. Taking these photos wasn’t that easy. The first photo I took was outside when it had just snowed outside the night before. I took a photo of Megan’s face but I made sure that she was wearing her hood because since there’s fur all around it. I wanted it to resemble like how the intuits used to live. I took this photo in photo shop and I edited the brightness and curves. I used the select tool and selected the iris and I used the color balance tool to enhance the color of her eyes. I really liked how this photo came out because since the photo is kind of overexposed it gives it a nice contrast with the blue eyes. For my second photo I used the shutter speed while Megan was running towards me in the snow. In this photo I contrasted this photo a lot. Something I really like about this photo is that the snow that is in the air and how it looks like there’s paint splattered everywhere. For my third photo I made my model put snow in her hands and bring it close to her face. Initially this photo didn’t really come out the way I wanted but I had to edit it quite a bit in photo shop. The photo was really white and there was now color to it. Since Megan’s eyes are blue I really wanted to enhance it in this photo because it is a good contrast with the snow. I used the tool selection tool and I selected her eyes and then I used the color balance tool and made her eyes a different shade of blue. All three of these photos were taken in on the same day. I wanted three of these photos to be different yet the same. I really liked how all of my photos came out.
Choice/The Sky
For my choice photo challenge, I decided to do sky photography. One of my favorite quotes are “the sky is the limit”. For my choice photograph I wanted to do something that reflects on me a person and my personality. Since that is my favorite quote I wanted to do that. Another thing I love to do is travelling. You’ll always see me on a plane. When I sit on an airplane and I open the window and see myself going through the clouds every time I cherish the moment. The first photo is a photo I had taken when I had gone to India last year in April. Something that I learned when I went there was that the sky is never clear blue with sunshine, because of the amount of pollution they have there, it’s always cloudy. I really liked how this photo came out because of the cloudiness and I really like how you can see the sunrays coming out in all different directions from the clouds. I did very little editing to this photo because I wanted the photo to have a natural touch to it. The second was taken on a plane in the night when I was coming back from Mexico. The quality of the photo isn’t the best because I had taken it with my phone but I did quite a bit editing to it to make it look the way I wanted it to. I added an layer mask around the middle of the photo where it’s yellow and used the color balance tool to make it more yellow. I also used the curves and contrast tool to sharpen the photo. For my third photo I took this when I had gone to Spain last summer when we had visited a castle and we were just coming back. The sun was setting and I looked back and took a photo. This photo was actually taken by accident and I didn’t really like it at first because the building in the back didn’t appear on the photo. But then I went to photo shop and I played with a bunch of the tools and I made it so that everything would appear black and the sun would be the main focal point. I tried to create a silhouette with it. All in all I really liked the way my photo’s turned out in the final process after I edited them.
Black and White
This week's photo challenge we got to choose between black and white photos or night photography. I decided to choose black and white photography because I knew that my photos would turn out better and I would enjoy it more. The very first photo I took outside where the fence is outside the auto-shop. Originally the background of the photo was red but I turned it into black and white. The idea behind this photo was that simple and sober. I wanted the photo to be simple yet catch the viewers attention. Overall I really liked how the background is pitch black and the fence is white with a grey off tone. My second photo was taken outside near the track. It was a cloudy day and I accidentally took this photo because I wanted to create the perfect setting for one of my other photos I was going to take. Since the sky was white and the tree branches already looked black I didn't need to do much editing for this photo. I really liked how the photo has a perfect exposure and how incorporated rule of thirds. And for my last photo I took these three photos of my pandora charms. I placed them onto a wooden table I had in my house. I took this photo into photo shop and I turned it black and white and I was playing around with the exposure and brightness. Overall I really liked how my photo turned out. Even though the last photo doesn't really compliment the other two photos I still liked the way it turned out!
Opposites Attract
This weeks photo challenge was opposites attract. All of the photos I took I didn't really go for a theme because all of my photos relate to one another because all of them compare each other. The first photo that I took was a leaf. I took this photo outside of the school on the concrete. The way I created this photo was I took it into photo shop and I used the quick selection tool to separate the leaf into two so that I could use a layer mask and turn the right side of the leaf black/gray. I also changed the contrast and brightness of the photo and I mostly focused on the contrast on the right side of the leaf because I really wanted to embrace the red in the leaf. The main idea behind my photo was I wanted to contrast color and no color. I really liked how my photo turned out because both sides of the leaf are completely different but they complement each other. Overall I was really happy with how my photo turned out after I edited it in photo shop.
My second photo is a photo of Sandra winking. The purpose of this photo was to show that the simplest things we do in life are opposite yet we think its the same thing. The way I created this photo was I first took a photo of Sandra's eyes open and then I took another photo of her eyes closed, I used a tripod when I was taking photos of her eyes because I didn't want both of the photos to be on different angles. I then cropped the photo with her eyes closed and merged it onto the photo with her eyes open. Since I merged the photo and there was a straight line going down the centre of her eyes I used the patch tool to blend it together to make it look like it was one photo. Out of the three photos I took for this photo challenge this was my favourite photo because I really liked how it turned out and I thought a lot of people wouldn't come up with this idea. I was really proud of myself that I made this photo look like it was one photo but actually this photo was two different photos.
For my third photo I took a photo of two shoes. It took me some time to figure out the composition and how I wanted it to look like. I ended up taking both of the shoes and took the photo of the shoes in two different angles. I didn't do much editing in this photo besides putting the contrast really high because it really compliments the leaves in the background with the white and black from the shoes. The main idea of my photo was to compare and contrast two different shoe brands that are really popular in the school. I placed the Adidas shoe in a way so that you are able to see the symbol and the Nike shoe so that you could see the check. At first I guess looking at this photo it may look like I was showing black and white but I wanted to show the difference between two of the most popular shoe company that everyone has in the school.

Food Photography
This weeks photo challenge was food. Since this was the first photo challenge for this year I wanted it to be simple but also be effective for the person who is looking at my photos. I didn't really go for a theme for this photo challenge, I just took three photos of my favourite things I enjoy to eat regularly. For the first photo I didn't do much editing for it because I'm not that familiar to photo shop yet. I just adjusted the contrast, brightness and curves. I did the same thing for the second photo too but I wanted the strawberries in the photo to stand out so I added a layer mask to that. And lastly for the cracker photos I put the contrast really high cause I liked the way the wood looked and how it complimented the cheese and crackers. Now looking at my photos something that I would like to change in my photos would be to work on my composition. For the first two photos I think it was a little to busy in the background. Overall I really liked how my photos turned out.
